Unity of democratic parties inevitable to save democracy: Thapa
Kathmandu, Sep 16 (UNI) Rastriya Janashakti Party Chairman and former prime minister Surya Bahadur Thapa has said his party is trying to bring about unity among democratic forces to save democracy from the leftist forces, media reports said today.
''The existence of the democratic process has been endangered by the presence of leftist parties in a significant number,'' Kantipur quoted Mr Thapa as saying while speaking at a programme here.
Mr Thapa said, ''Attempts are underway to unite all the democratic forces to safeguard the democratic system.'' ''The outgoing prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala was also positive in recent discussions regarding the unity among democratic forces,'' he said.
Claiming that the Maoists' disagreement on the parliamentary system and their activities hint at threat to democracy, he accused them of disrespecting people's mandate.
There is simple majority of the Communist parties in the current CA and the coalition government comprised of communist parties and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum and Nepal Sadbhavana Party.
