LPG waiting list to be wiped out by month-end: Govt
New Delhi, Sept 16 (UNI) The government today brought out good news for the consumer, saying the cooking gas (LPG) waiting list will be cleared by month-end and there will be adequate supply of petroleum products in the coming festive season.
''The LPG waiting list of nearly eight lakhs, a month ago, has been reduced by half to 3.9 lakhs at present and the balance will be wiped out by the end of September 2008,'' Petroleum Secretary R S Pandey said.
Earlier also, the government had assured there was no shortage of cooking gas in the country and that Indian Oil Corporation was in the process of clearing about two lakh applications for new connections.
In a meeting with the heads of oil PSUs last month, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora had taken the companies to task for reported shortages in fuel supplies in some parts of the country. He had asked them to clear the wait-list for new LPG connections in 60 days.
