TN: Release of life convicts on anna birth centenary

Chennai, Sep 12: The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Friday, Sep 12 ordered release of 1,405 life convicts, including 22 women, to commemorate the birth centenary of Chief Minister C N Annadurai.

An official release here said all the 1,405 convicts, serving in various prisons, would be released on Monday, Sep 15, the birth anniversary of Mr Annadurai. He said life convicts, who had completed seven years in prison as on September 15 and those above 60 years, who have completed five years would be released on that day.

The State Government ordered the release as per rules and regulations and after obtaining necesary permission from Governor S S Barnala, Mr Karunanidhi added.
