Karunanidhi sanctions Rs 11 cr for milk production scheme
Chennai, Sep 10 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today ordered sanctioning of Rs 11 crore for the ''Anna Centenary Integrated Milk Production Scheme'' to increase the milk production and help Women Self Help Groups (WSHGs) in the state.
As announced in the state budget for the year 2008-09, the Chief Minister sanctioned the amount for the scheme to increase milk production and the income of farm households producing milk, an official release said here.
The government has decided to implement the scheme, by which 10,000 crossbred milch animals would be provided to WSHGs at a cost of Rs 22 crore for a period of two years, through the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation, it said.
The scheme would be taken up in 200 villages, which were suitable for milk production, benefiting 5,000 women.
To begin with, the scheme would be implemented in 100 villages in Coimbatore, Thanjavur and Madurai districts.
WSHGs in these villages would be distributed 5,000 crossbred milch animals, the release said.
The implementation of the scheme would help to step up milk production by 41,000 litres a day, it added.
