HC suspends monitoring committee for MCD

New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today suspended the monitoring committee and the eight Court commissioners who were earlier appointed by the court to keep a watch on the unathorised constructions in the Capital mushrooming under the patronage of Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD).

A bench, comprising Justices Mukul Mudgal and Manmohan, suspended the court commissioners with a warning to the MCD that if they do not comply with the rule of the law and curb the unauthorised constructions in the next six months, the court will appoint some mechanism to monitor their functioning.

The bench dismissed MCD's plea which had stated that the court did not had powers to appoint such commiittee and direct them to work efficiently on their proposed schemes.

Counsel for the MCD Ravi Shankar Prasad said the MCD will function effectively now and gave some proposals to the court which they intend to follow to ensure effective remedial measures to curb corruption and mushrooming of unauthorised constructions in the Capital.
