SVU VC Rathanam passes away

Tirupati, Sep 6 (UNI) Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Choppala Rathnam, who was admitted to Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) following a stroke, died here today.

The 55-year-old professor was admitted to SVIMS on August 31 when he complained of chest pain during a meeting organised by Girijan Students Association. He underwent a by-pass surgery yesterday.

Prof Rathnam, who worked earlier in the Department of Economics, Andhra University, had taken charge as the Vice-Chancellor of SVU on January 18 this year.
