Vaithilingam assumes CM's post for second time

Puducherry, Sep 4 (UNI) Mr V Vaithilingam, who assumed office as the new Chief Minister of the Puducherry today, is occupying the chair for the second time as Chief Minister.

Earlier, he held the post when he assumed office on July 4, 1991 after winning the election from Nettapakkam constituency in the ninth Assembly polls.

Born to Venkatasubbareddiyar, former Chief Minister, and Lakshmikantham at Madukarai on October 5, 1950, 58-year-old Vaithilingam had his school and college education in Cuddalore.

A BCom graduate, Mr Vaithilingam held several posts, including President of the Regulatory Marketing Committee, Director of Cooperative Union and was a member of the territorial Assembly in the seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh and 12th Assemblies.

He was PWD Minister in the seventh Assembly, Chief Minister in the ninth Assembly, Leader of the Opposition in the tenth Assembly and Agriculture Minister in the previous Rangasamy ministry.
