Melbourne, Sept 2 : While amateur porn tapes are blamed for the decline in the sales of mainstream porn industry, experts claim that soon people would be cautious of posting explicit material online.

According to Dr Kath Albury, co-author of Australian study The Porn Report, people would become much more wary of what they let out of the bedroom after seeing the possible ramifications. "The technology has probably gotten ahead of us here and the penny hasn't dropped yet for a lot of people posting this material yet," News.com.au quoted Albury, as saying.

She added: "But they will come to realise there is still a lot of stigma attached to it. You and your friends may not have a problem with it but your parents or your employers could and once the image is out there you can't get it back."

After researching online pornography for 10 years, Albury said that the sex tape may have helped the careers of Pamela Anderson and Paris Hilton but it won't do the same for many others.

However, she believes that the amateur material though will continue to be popular but will only be made from people who are aware they are going to end up on the internet.

"Amateur porn is popular partly because there are people who like being voyeurs and it is more appealing to them if people involved are genuine exhibitionists," she said.

In her opinion, people who feel that mainstream porn movies do not satisfy their fetishes or fantasies produce majority of the amateur material.

"Some people do it as a sort of community service and are not really interested in making money off it," she said.

Fiona Patten, Eros Association chief executive said the adult entertainment industry was at a crossroads with production companies concerned they were losing money to people "making their own material and giving it away for free".

However, others in the industry like adultshop.com managing director Malcolm Day and porn star Belladonna think that this would not hamper the current stronghold of brands on the market.

Day said that just like any other business, marketing would play an important role and brand names would be able to hold onto their customers.

Belladonna, renowned as a queen of hardcore pornography, said her celebrity and loyal fan base would not let the amateur porn industry to affect her market.

"I don't feel threatened. I really don't try and think about that stuff. I just try to focus on what I'm doing," she said.
