Stilettoed Sydney gals sprint towards world record
Melbourne, Sept 2 : While many may find it hard to even stand properly in high heels, hundreds of Aussie women took the plunge to run on streets wearing their stilettos.
At the Smooth Stiletto Sprint today at Circular Quay in Sydney, hundreds of women raced in their heels.
But the event was not without injuries, what with many beauties crashing on the ground.
In fact, one of the competitors even said that her decision to enter the competition was a big mistake.
"What we're trying to do is break the world record. It's held by Holland," the Daily Telegraph quoted Australian sprinter and official event scrutineer, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor, as saying.
She added: "They had 150 competitors running over 80 metre so we need to get more than 150 today."
And the women and some of the men actually succeeded in beating that record.
Brittney McGlone, 18, of Braidwood near Canberra, who stood first in the 80-metre, won herself 5000 dollars and a pair of Terry Biviano shoes.
