EC to meet political parties of J

New Delhi, Sep 2 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) today decided to consult national and State recognised political parties of Jammu and Kashmir seperately on Monday, regarding the various election related issues concerning the State, EC sources here said.

This came in the wake of doubts that were expressed over the possibility of holding assembly polls after the recent violence in the state.

The Commission took the decision to convene meetings with seven national parties and three state recognised parties regarding the need to hold elections on time after the end of Governor's rule in the state on January 10.

Violence was triggered in Jammu and Kashmir over the Amarnath land row, resulting in imposition of curfew in both parts for long periods.

In the normal course the tenure of the Assembly was to expire on November 20. However, in view of the Governor's Rule imposed on July 10, the Commission has time to hold elections by January 10.
