Rs 10,000 cr projects for rural areas
Ludhiana, Sep 1 (UNI) For the development of rural areas, the Punjab Government has launched development projects to the tune of Rs 10,000 crore.
This was stated by Information and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia while addressing a rural gathering before the installation ceremony of new Chairman Zila Parishad Manpreet Singh Ayali here today.
Elaborating the projects, the Minister said that the government had launched a crash programme for the repair of all the rural roads costing to Rs 3000 crore and Rs 1280 crore World Bank water supply and sewerage projects to cover 3044 villages by year 2011. He said that 18km new link roads were also being constructed in each constituency during this year.
The Minister added that the government had also launched Canal Rejuvenation Project of Rs 3243 crore, under which, the whole canal system was being revamped and water carrying capacity was being enhanced, besides Rs 1500 crore were being spent for the construction of water lining for irrigation.
