Geelani, Omar, Yaseen released in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 1 (UNI) Chairmen of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chief Mohammad Yaseen Malik were released this evening.

A spokesman for the moderate HC Shahid-ul-Islam said all the three leaders were released. However, he said Mr Geelani has been taken to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) Soura for a checkup.

A spokesman for the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom party said Shabir Ahmad Shah was shifted to the central jail from police station Sadder today.

He said he was reportedly booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) The leaders were arrested on August 24 and 25 to prevent them from participating in the Lal Chowk Chalo, call for which was given by the coordination committee, spearheading the present agitation in Kashmir valley.

About 100 second rank and other separatists were also arrested in the Kashmir valley since August 24.
