Jaipur, Aug 30 (UNI) Mayors and Chairpersons in Municipal Corporations or Municipalities in Rajasthan will now be elected through direct elections.

The Rajasthan Government has decided to promulgate ordinance- Rajasthan Municipalities Ordinance 2008, to accommodate the above provision and other municipal reforms in the form of a model unified Municipal Act.

The Rajasthan Cabinet today approved the draft of the ordinance and asked the Urban Development Department to forward the same to Governor S K Singh for his consent.

After the Governor's consent the ordinance will be sent to the President Pratibha Patil for the obligatory approval, Rajasthan State Government Spokesman and P W D Minister Rajendra Singh Rathore said.
