Trinamool Cong blocks Delhi-Kolkata highway

Singur, Aug 28: The Delhi-Kolkata highway route has been blocked completely on the fifth day affecting the truck drivers carrying commodities in the indefinite Singur protests of the Trinamool Congress led by its supremo, Mamata Banerjee against Tata Motors Plant and the Government. Around 40,000 trucks are stranded in a row and cannot even move an inch. "We have to pay a penalty fee if we donot deliver the commodities on time. And I cannot afford a penalty. Moreover, I cannot leave the truck and go to fetch something to eat when i'm hungry", laments a truck driver.

Trucks stand stacked on the blocked highway. Over 40,000 trucks are stranded at Shaktigarh, a place that is 45 kms from Singur.

Mamata Banerjee continues her dharna outside the Tata Nano car project, the alternative GT Road too is jammed and the truckers" patience is wearing thin.

“I don't know what to do my export consignment. The order must have been cancelled by now," said a worried driver of another truck.

There is panic in the local markets in Kolkata too as the supply of goods from North India has stopped completely.
