Dasmunsi rules out Centre's intervention in Singur impasse
Kolkata, Aug 28 (UNI) Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today ruled out the Centre's intervention in the Singur imbroglio.
''The Congress wants overall development of the state. The party's trade wing INTUC is agitating against the government's forceful land acquisition in Singur from the beginning.
''The crisis at Tata Motor's small car project is created by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee himself, '' Mr Dasmunsi said, while speaking at the party's students' wing Chhatra Parishad's 55th foundation day here.
Mr Dasmunsi, also the Bengal Pradesh Congress president, alleged that the Chief Minister and the State government were solely responsible for the present crisis over the land aquisition for Tata's small car project in Singur.
''It is their duty to solve the issue and the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre will not take any initiative in this regard. We are not against industrialisation but forceful land acquisition,''he observed.
The State government should convene a tripartite meeting among the industrialists, farmers and government representatives in a bid to reach a consensus before acquiring land for setting up industries, he opined.
Holding Mr Bhattacharjee responsible for the Singur unrest he said, the Congress would later take up an agitational programme whereever the Chief Minister would be present.
'' Our next course of action against the Left Front government's forceful land acquisition will be announced on August 30, '' Mr Dasmunsi added.
Besides Mr Dasmunsi, senior party leader Janardan Pujari, PCC acting president Pradip Bhattacharjee and CLP leader Manas Bhunia were among others present on the occasion.
