BJP objects to appointment of Ms Cardozo by SAG

Panaji, Aug 28 (UNI) The Sports Cell of BJP has demanded to quash the appointment of Ms Steffi Cardozo by Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), alleging irregulities in the same.

In a memorandum to Exectuive Director of SAG, the BJP Sports Cell Convenor Paresh Kamat has mentioned a number of ''discrepancies'' such as non appliance of regular procedure of appointment and non- issuance of any advertisement or notification in this regard.

Ms Cardozo was appointed by Mr Eugune Cardozo, chairman of recruitment committee of SAG.

It is also alleged that Ms Cardozo has been appointed in officer scale, though her education qualification did not match the criteria.

According to the memorendum, one of the conditions for the post was that a mimimum of 10 medals should be won by the candidate at the National level. However, Ms Cardozo won medals only at inter-district or inter-zonal level.

Mr Kamat has alleged that there were sportsmen like Santosh Harijan (Asian Gold medalist), Pravin Kumar Shirodkar, Sinia Parab, Vishwanah Naik and Kavita Auti, who have won many medals at various levels but were neglected.
