Vice-Admiral Vijay Shankar to take over as C-in-C Andaman

New Delhi, Aug 25 (UNI) Vice-Admiral Vijay Shankar, presently Commander-in-Chief of Strategic Force Command, will take over as Commander-in-Chief Andaman&Nicobar Command by the end of next month.

Vice-Admiral Vijay Shankar, an alumnus of the 34th NDA Course, will take over from Air Marshal S Radhakrishnan on September 30.

Commissioned in the Indian Navy in January 1970, Mr Vijay Shankar is a specialist in Navigation and Direction and holds an MSc in Defence Studies.

He is also a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Naval Higher Command Course and the Naval War College at New Port, the US and has held a variety of staff appointments, which include Deputy Director in the erstwhile Directorate of Combat Policy and Tactics, Director at Maritime Warfare Centre, Chief Instructor in Navigation and Direction School (K), Senior Instructor at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and Director of Staff Requirements at the Naval Headquarters.

Vice-Admiral Vijay Shankar is a recipient of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.
