Sister Italy, an on-line beauty contest for nuns
London, Aug 25: An Italian priest is organising an online beauty competition for nuns, to fight stereotypes that they are old and dull. Father Antonio Rungi will be posting the photos of the nuns, who wish to take part, on his website
The pictures will be accompanied by a space in which the candidates can list the order to which they belong, and the duties they perform. The online voters will be given an idea of their personalities. Those contesting for the title of 'Sister Italy' will be expected to reveal something of their 'lives and miracles'. "Do you really think nuns are all elderly, straitlaced and funereal?" the Guardian quoted Rungi as saying.
"It's no longer that way these days. There are nuns from Africa and Latin America who are really very, very lovely. The Brazilians, particularly," he added.
Rungi came up with the idea while chatting with some sisters on the beach at Mondragone near Naples.
