Musharraf's ouster won't change Pak's foreign policy

Islamabad, Aug 22 : The Pakistan Foreign Office has said that the country's present day establishment was committed to the war against terrorism and ensuring peace with India, and that its foreign policy won't change with Pervez Musharraf's ouster as the country's president.

"Pakistan is fully committed in the war against terrorism.... and committed in the peace process to resolve all outstanding issues with India," Foreign Office Spokesman Muhammad Sadiq said while responding to two different questions during a weekly briefing.

Pakistan had been "reacting" to the recent incidents in Kashmir but the overall policy remained the same. "There is no change in the policy on Kashmir and composite dialogue," the Daily Times quoted him as saying.

However, he said that any change in the policy was the 'prerogative' of the parliament.

About the control of nuclear assets after Musharraf's resignation, he said that the nuclear assets were under the control of the National Command Authority.

To another question, Sadiq said Pakistan attached great importance to the Line of Control (LoC) confidence building measures (CBMs) and was committed to taking all necessary steps to facilitate cross-LoC trade.
