AAI identifies consortiums for modernising Chennai airport
New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has identified two consortiums for construction of runway and terminal building of the Chennai airport to be modernised at a cost of Rs 1,800 crore.
B Seenaiah&Co (Projects) Ltd- KGLC Consortium was the lowest bidder for runway work and Herve Pomerleau International (Canada)-CCC Ltd. JV for the terminal building, a Civil Aviation Ministry release said here today.
''The contracts are likely to be awarded to them by the middle of September, and the works will start immediately thereafter,'' the release said.
The master plan design of the terminal has been developed through Global Architecture design competition.
The new domestic terminal will be able to handle ten million passengers.
Extension of the existing international terminal will add an additional annual capacity of seven million passengers. It has a provision of multi-level car park for 2,400 vehicles.
Peak hour aircraft handling capacity will get enhanced from 25 aircraft per hour to 45-50 movements per hour. After completion of the project, total passenger capacity will be about 23 million.
