Truckers strike affects life
Aizawl, Aug 21 (UNI) An indefinite strike called by Zoram Truck Owners' Association since yesterday has stopped all goods-carrying vehicles from entering the state.
According to official sources, a number of goods-laden trucks were stranded at Lailapur, a few km away from Vairengte gate.
The truckers in Mizoram are against certain points in the state government's agreement with contractors regarding supply tenders deeming it ''discriminatory.'' The sources said Cachar (Assam) Truck Owners' and Drivers' Association also supported the truckers strike.
However, Mizoram Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister K Sangthuama during the day assured undisturbed supply of essential commodities into the state by providing security escort to the supplies-carrying vehicles.
