Seventy human skulls seized near Siliguri
Siliguri, Aug 21 (UNI) Darjeeling police today arrested two people including a 60-year-old woman, and seized some 70 human skulls and dozens of thigh bones from them at Panitanki bordering India and Nepal, about 30 km north from here.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Pradip Kumar Dutta told UNI that Doma Lama and Uttam Rai (22) were caught red-handed while carrying skulls and some 25 femurs in two bags from Nepal.
He said the contraband was meant to smuggle in Bhutan, where human skulls and thigh bones are in great demands among Buddhists practising trantra.
Mr Dutta said all seized articles would be sent for forensic tests to determine details of the skulls and femurs.
Doma Lama is an owner of a small hotel at Panitanki under Khoribari police station in Darjeeling district and Rai, a resident of Darjeeling hill.
