Nomadic tribe members stage rally in Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 21 (UNI) Hundreds of people belonging to nomadic tribes, led by MP Haribhau Rathod, today organised a rally at Azad Maidan here to press for their demand of accepting recommendations, made by Balkrishan Renke Commission to the central government.

Addressing the rally, Mr Rathod said the government should accept the recommendations of the Commission, which has suggested modification in the constitution to create a third scheduled caste so that members of 'Nomadic Tribe' community will get all the benefits as given to the members of scheduled caste.

Mr Rathod said he had already raised the issue on the floor of the House and is likely to come up for discussion in forthcoming Parliament session.

Despite the country having completed 61 years of independance, development of nomadic tribes was not upto the mark. The members of the community are still living below proverty line across the country, he said.

The Commission has recommended ten per cent reservation in job, modification in the constitution and to create a third list of caste, reserving 25 per cent houses for nomadic tribe, under the Indira Avash Gharkul, construction of Ashram School and houses for them in the urban areas.
