South African student dies on football field
Bangalore, Aug 20 (UNI) A South African, student studying in a local college, today collapsed and died due to cardiac failure while playing in the South Zone Inter-college Football Tournament hosted by Bangalore University in Central College Ground here today.
Police said that 20-year-old Athibi Javeri of Ivory Coast in South Africa, was a student in Reddy Janasangha College. He was playing in a tournament for his college and his team was playing against KGF First Grade College, when the incident happened.
He was rushed to St Marths Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The body was sent to Victoria Hospital for post mortem.
Following the incident the matches scheduled for today were cancelled.
The match was scheduled for yesterday but played today due to heavy rains left the pitch water logged last evening.
