Centre gives SC more evidence of SIMI's terror involvement

New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) The Union Home Ministry today filed a fresh affidavit in the Supreme Court incorporating fresh evidence showing involvement of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in terrorist and anti-national activities.

The Centre in its affidavit also placed on record the evidence collected by various investigative agencies such as Gujarat Police, Rajasthan Police and Maharashtra Police to justify the ban imposed on SIMI by the government under the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act.

The government has come in appeal to the Supreme Court against the order of the Delhi High Court Tribunal dated August 5, lifting a ban on SIMI.

Justice Geeta Mittal had lifted the ban on SIMI on the grounds that there is no fresh evidence against the fundamentalist outfit showing involvement in terrorist activities.

The apex court on August 6 had stayed the operation of the High Court orders for three weeks.

The apex court will hear the petition of the governmnet on August 25.
