UK has played no role in Musharraf's impeachment'

London, Aug. 17 (ANI: Britain has rejected suggestions that it is playing a key role in the impeachment process of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.

According to Sir Mark Lyall Grant, a senior British diplomat and former High Commissioner to Pakistan,

London is not playing any role in the impeachment moves. An official of the high commission also ruled out trying to save Musharraf from impeachment.

The Dawn quoted Natasha Khan, Foreign Office's spokesperson on Pakistani affairs, as confirming the three-day visit of Grant and his meetings with Musharraf, Asif Zardari, Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Army chief General Kiyani, but categorically stated that Britain was neither meddling in nor trying to dictate the political process in Pakistan.

"Our aim is to see Pakistan as a stable, strong and prosperous country for its citizens, the region, and the world as a whole. Britain fully supports the democratic process in Pakistan and believes in supporting the democratic institutions, not individuals," she was quoted, as saying.
