Communal clashes continue in northern Assam

Guwahati, Aug 17 (UNI) Communal tension continued to rock northern Assam districts with reports of fresh violence between tribal people and minority community received today.

Two persons sustained injuries when a group of about 300 Bodo villagers attacked a nearby minority community village along the border of disturbed Udalguri and Soniptur districts, police said.

The attackers torched several houses and fired gun shots, though police could not confirm about the latter.

Police forces rushed to the spot and the situation was brought under control.

Meanwhile, a review meeting, attended by top district and police officials, was held at Rowta police station in Udalguri district today.

Army continued to stage flag march in the troubled greater Dalgaon area since last evening though no fresh incidents were reported.

The Army was called in after one minority community person was killed yesterday by other communities in retaliation to similar attacks by the minority community.

Another person was killed and several others injured when communal clashes had broke out in the area on Thursday.
