Andaman takes steps to strengthen air connectivity

Port Blair, Aug 17 (UNI) The Andaman administration today stated that the expansion of the Port Blair airport was being carried out to facilitate the landing of international flights.

The work was started soon after the Centre accorded 'international airport' status to Port Blair airport, Lt Governor Bhopinder Singh told mediapersons.

Mr Singh further said additional parking bays were being developed so as to facilitate smooth and hassle-free parking of at least four more aircrafts here.

''It is expected that the work for the additional parking bays will be completed by the end of this year,'' he added.

Referring to strengthening of the inter-island services, the Lt Governor informed that the administration had purchased two Dolphin-365 helicopters on lease from Pawan Hans.

Efforts were on to procure more helicopters and aircrafts, which will strengthen the inter-island connectively, he said.

At least one helicopter is expected by September, he added.

Two fixed-wing aircrafts will also be inducted to strengthen the inter-island air connectivity, official sources said.
