Aizawl police gives clean chit to Mizoram minister in sex scandal

Aizawl, Aug 17 (UNI) The Aizawl police has given a clean chit to Mizoram Sports and Youth Affairs and Tourism Minister Z H Ropuia in connection with an alleged sex scandal.

Investigating Officer DSP David Lalthangliana said here today that the man, in a compromising position with a well-known local female singer in a leaked-out picture, has now been proved to be someone else, not the minister.

Following the allegations of Mr Ropuia being involved in a sex scandal, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, on August 14, asked the minister to resign if the allegations were proved to be true.

The minister had lodged an FIR with the Aizawl police station, alleging that some people, for their vested interests, were trying to tarnish his image by distributing such pictures.

''I have faith in the law and I hope that the truth will be revealed soon,'' Mr Ropuia said.

He, however, said he had no idea who was responsible for the incident.

Meanwhile, the man in the picture has been arrested by the Aizawl police.
