Chandy demands Minister's resignation following HC remarks
Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 14(UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy today demanded the resignation of State Revenue Minister K P Rajendran, in the wake of the High Court remarks against him in the Golf Club issue.
In a statement here, Mr Chandy said, if the minister desires to abide by the Constitution and supremacy of the people, he should quite the office following the court remarks.
Pointing out that in the past, ministers had resigned ahead of final verdicts against them, following the courts remarks, he said the Left Democratic Front(LDF) and the Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan should ask the minister to tender his resignation, considering the moral responsibilities the politicians are expected to maintain and the exigency of the situation.
The Kerala High Court yesterday strongly reprimanded State Revenue Principal Secretary Nivedita P Haran for committing contempt of court in connection with the Government's takeover of the Trivandrum Golf Club.
