Four of family die as jeep falls in canal in Punjab

Ferozpur, Aug 12 (UNI) A family of four, including two teenage sons, drowned in the Rajasthan Feeder canal when their jeep fell into it near Kulgeri village in the district today, police sources here said.

The deceased were identified as BSF Head Constable Harjit Singh, his wife Gurbinder Kaur and their two sons, Shvinder Singh (18) and Pargat Singh (14). The family was returning home after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple at Amritsar.

The help of BSF and army divers was sought to pull out the bodies. The divers besides locating the jeep also fished out three bodies. However, the body of Pargat Singh was still untraceable.

The BSF personnel was posted at the Wagah-Attari checkpost.

Three of the bodies after post-mortems were handed over to the next of kin.
