Kerala gets Rs 153 crore for IT education
New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) The Centre has sanctioned an additional Rs 153 crore assistance to Kerala for expanding Information Technology (IT) education in government and aided schools.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Evaluation Committee of the Information Communication Technology in School (ICTS) Programme of the Human Resources Development Ministry.
Official sources said the Rs 153 crore assistance was in addition to the Rs 50.8 crore sanctioned last year.
With this, Kerala will get a total of Rs 203 crore for IT education for the next five years.
The additional assistance would help to expand the scheme to 3055 more schools, including 1408 aided high schools, 1647 higher secondary and vocational higher secondary schools.
The scheme, which seeks to distribute computer, printer, scanner, projector, laptop, broadband internet connection, will be implemented by the IT@school project of the Kerala government.
Evaluation Committee Chairman Arunkumar Dutt said the huge assistance was extended to Kerala in recognition of its exemplary performance in the IT education sector.
