Coast guard to set up modern Jetty in Mandapam for security

Ramanathapuram, Aug 8 (UNI) The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), which is guarding the Indian territorial waters would set up a modern Jetty to enhance its security operations at Mandapam in Ramanathapuram district, Inspector General (Commander), Eastern Region, ICG, S P Basra said here today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said a staff quarters would also be built in the ICG Camp at Mandapam. The Jetty and staff quarters would be established at an estimated cost of Rs ten crore, he added.

On frequent firing by the Sri Lankan navy against Tamil Nadu fishermen, he said the firing incidents took place within Sri Lankan territorial waters and not in the Indian waters.''We have already advised our fishermen not to cross the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) to prevent such firing incidents'', he added.

He said the ICG was conducting joint patrolling along with the State Coastal Security Police force in the coastal belts of Tamil Nadu. The ICG had also given special training to coastal security police and we are ready to train the police personnel of other States, if they evinced interest, he added.

Earlier, he visited the ICG Mandapam camp and held discussions with the senior ICG officials on security measures.
