Rain havoc leaves 7 dead in AP, people marooned
Hyderabad, Aug 5 (UNI) Seven people were killed as heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Andhra Pradesh causing damage to crops and ponds overflowing in the districts.
Revenue Secretary Ratna Prabha told newsmen here four persons were killed in East Godavari, two in Adilabad and one in Khammam Districts.
A sum of Rs one lakh ex gratia would be given to the family members of the victims.
She said Khammam, Adilabad, Warangal and East Godavari Districts were the worst-affected by the heavy rainfall caused due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal.
Several low-lying areas were inundated and rivulets, streams and reserviours overflowing in several places.
The official said the district administration was instructed to take all precautionary steps to prevent rain-related incidents.
Many villages were marooned in the flood waters. Choppers would be pressed into service to drop food and water packets to the stranded people.
