CPM demands compensation of Rs 5 lakh for Lakhisarai mishap victims
Patna, Aug 4 (UNI) The Bihar unit of the CPM today demanded compensation of Rs five lakh for the next of kin of those killed in the road mishap near Ghoghsa village under Halsi police station area in Lakhisarai district on Saturday.
In a statement released here, state secretary of the party Badri Narain Lal alleged that the poor condition of the road was responsible for the tragic incident, claiming the lives of more than 35 labourers.
''The callousness of the authorities can be gauged from the fact that the officers reached the spot after wasting five hours in deciding the jurisdiction under which the accident took place,'' Mr Lal said.
He demanded the state government to take stern action against the officers responsible for the mishap and prevent recurrence of such incidents.
''Compensation of Rs one lakh announced for the victims by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is not enough,'' he added.
Earlier, 25 labourers were killed when their truck fell into a river, breaking the parapet on the overbridge.
