Auto drivers roped as informers by Rohtak police
Rohtak, Aug 4 (UNI) In the wake of recent bomb blasts, the Haryana police has come up with a novel idea of roping in auto rickshaws drivers to get vital information about suspicious people and unlawful activities.
A spokesman of Police Department said the IG Rohtak V Kamaraja has initiated the scheme under which drivers would be rewarded for providing useful information against criminal elements.
At least 21 auto rickshaw stands have been identified from where the 823 auto rickshaws registered in the police records, would ply.
This scheme would help to regulate plying of auto rickshaws and isolate unauthorised vehicles. The selected auto rickshaw drivers, who would prominently display the police helpline numbers, would also be apprised of traffic control rules.
He said those auto rickshaw drivers who would provide information about any suspicious person or unlawful activities, would be rewarded upto Rs 5000 in cash.
