Jail Life 'tasteless' for two Nigerian youths
Thrissur, Aug 1 (UNI) Two Nigerian youths lodged in the Viyyur Central Jail here are virtually starving, not getting food palatable enough and are facing health problems.
Jail rules do not allow provision of special food for them. Their health is also deteriorating, jail authorities said.
The youths, George Namdy (32) and Kingsten E Chukku (30) were arrested at Kattapana on December 8, for not possessing valid travel documents. Their passports had also expired.
The youths had come to India in connection with textile business.
They were not involved in any crime, according to police. They were eligible to get bail, but have nobody to take up their cases.
George Namdy has lost eye-sight partially and was suffering from high blood-pressure.
The Nigerian embassy has been informed about their arrest and their present situation, but there has been no response. The Kattapana court has been extending their remands every month.
