Prayers for animals sacrificed in Assam for turst vote
Guwahati, Jul 30 (UNI) People for Animals, an animal rights group, today prayed in the famous Ugratara temple here for the 318 animals sacrificed in the Kamakhya temple by the Samajwadi Party (SP) for success in the July 22 trust vote.
People for Animal president Sangita Goswami said, ''As many as 318 lamps were lighted inside the temple for the soul of goats and buffaloes which were sacrificed by SP MLA Kishore Samitre of Madhya Pradesh.'' She said the act was most tragic and barbaric in the name of religion and politics. Several hundred supporters also took part in the prayers.
After the cash for vote stigma in the trust vote, the SP had sacrificed 318 animals in the past four days.
''Every day he is sacrificing goats and buffaloes with Sunday and Monday seeing the highest number, when 121 goats and two buffaloes were sacrificed each day,'' said a Kamakhya Debuttar Trust spokesman.
