Vijay's Last Film Jana Nayagan Likely To Get Censor Nod This Week; Release This Month

After delaying the release by over six months, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's swan song Jana Nayagan is preparing to hit the screens.

If we go by the rumours in the tinsel town, Vijay-starrer is expected to receive its CBFC certificate this week. It is said that the makers plan to submit the movie for censorship in Telugu and Hindi languages once they get nod for its Tamil version.

The makers have set their eyes on July 16 for Jana Nayagan release. If it fails to hit the screens on this date, it is then mostly likely to be out on July 23.

However, July 31 is also under consideration and its release date will be announced only after it gets clearance from the regional censor board.

Originally, Jana Nayagan was planned for release on January 9 for Pongal festival. However, the release was delayed at the last minute after it failed to get clearance from the censor board.

The examining committee initially informed the team on 22 December that the film would get a UA 16+ certificate, subject to 14 cuts and modifications. However, certification was later stalled after a member of the original committee wrote to CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi raising objections to some scenes.

Going by the reports, Vijay-starrer ran into trouble over the depiction of certain religious practices and the alleged use of army symbols without formal approval. In addition to it, several dialogues and scenes had political undertones. One of the members sent to movie for the revising committee, forcing the makers to cancel the original release plans.

The makers approached the Madras High Court but they failed to get relief. Finally, it was decided by the team that the movie will be released after the completion of the Tamil Nadu elections.

Now that the elections have ended and Vijay, founder of the TVK, has not only won the elections but also became the Chief Minister of the state. All the hurdles around the flick is nearly cleared.

Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, has Pooja Hegde in the female lead. Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Nassar, Sunil, Reba Monica John, Baba Bhaskar and others are in the supporting cast.
