Construction engineer injured at Tata Motor's Singur unit
Singur, Jul 30 (UNI) A mob of irate farmers attacked the Tata Motors small car project site and seriously injured a construction engineer at the unit, police said here today.
A group of about 100 farmers attacked the victim, identified as Manish Khatua, last night and hit him with a rod, leaving him seriously injured, police said.
The engineer was working for a construction firm Shapoorji Pallonji in contract with Tata Motors.
He was immediately rushed to the Srerampore Wals Hospital. Later, he was shifted to a private hospital in Kolkata after his condition became critical, police added.
A local farmer was arrested today in this connection, while cases against 50 other people had been lodged, Singur police station Officer-in-Charge Priyobrata Bakshi informed.
Mr Bakshi said additional forces had been deployed in the area and police had launched a manhunt to nab the other miscreants.
Meanwhile, Singur Krishi Jami Rakkha Commitee convenor Becharam Manna told newspersons that their agitation would continue unless the land forcibly acquired from the farmers was returned.
