Strike call at tea gardens on Aug 11
Kolkata, Jul 28 (UNI) Tea workers union today called for a day's strike at Terai and Dooars on August 11 to press demand for workers' wage hike.
Defence Committee for Plantation Workers Right today served a notice to state labour department calling for strike in all tea estates in Dooars and Terai in Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling districts respectively.
Defence Committee's convenor Samir Roy, in an email, said the strike was called to protest employers' apathy to sit for settlement of wage revision for daily waged and monthly waged labourers in tea gardens.
He also threatened if no settlement move was taken by the planters on or before August 11, then an indefinite strike would follow from August 18.
