Jaya condemns blasts, seeks revival of POTA
Chennai, Jul 27 (UNI) Condemning the serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad as acts of ''desparation and cowardice'', AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa today demanded revival of Special Act like POTA to deal with terrorism and extremism.
In a statement here, she reiterated to defend and maintain the territorial integrity of the country, a special act like POTA should be revived.
''POTA should be allowed to remain in our statute books to effectively counter terrorists and extremist outfits,'' she added.
Expressing anguish over the deaths of 41 people in the serial blasts at Ahmedabad and Bangalore, she said these were acts of desperation and cowardice and aimed at disturbing peace and harmony in the country.
''These dastardly acts of terrorists should be condemned in the strongest terms,'' she said and urged the Centre and the state governments to go for a thorough probe to nab the culprits.
''We must solemnly resolve to stand firm and united against such acts of mindless terror,'' Ms Jayalalithaa said and conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed.
She also offered her prayers to the almighty for the speedy recovery of the injured.
