Nepal's presidential election process begins

Kathmandu, July 16: The process for the election of the first president of republican Nepal commenced on Wednesday,July 16.

According to the election schedule, the candidates will file their nomination papers for the post of president and vice president till 5:00 p.m. The first voters' was published at 10:00 a.m. and the final voters will be published at around 12:30 p.m. However, if the political understanding is not forthcoming, nominations can be filed on Thursday between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.. The final list of candidates would be published at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

On Friday, the parties will conduct a campaign to attract a large number of voters. A day after, the election will be held between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Results will be announced by the Constituent Assembly on the same day.

The president can be elected by a simple majority. If none of the candidates gets a majority, the top two candidates will head for a second round of voting.

Only the Constituent Assembly members are eligible to vote in the election, nepalnews.com reported.
