PMK urges Centre to take steps to protect TN fishermen

Puducherry, July 14 (UNI) PMK Parliamentary party leader M Ramadass today urged the Centre to take immediate steps to protect Tamil Nadu fishermen from the atrocities of the Sri Lanakn Navy personnel.

In a letter to External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Prof Ramadass recalled the arrest and harassament of 1,1000 fishermen of Rameswaram and the firing on the fishermen of Vedaranyam in which two were killed and said that immediate steps be taken to check the continued attack on Tamil Nadu fishermen.

The Sri Lankan Ambassador in India should be summoned and the concern of the government should be conveyed immediately. Orders to punish the naval personnel, who intrude into the Indian waters should also be issued, he said.

Prof Ramadass also suggested increasing the number of Indian naval personnel on patrol duty.
