Increase Haj quotta, CPI-M to central Haj committee
Srinagar, Jul 14 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (M) today appealed to Central Haj Committee (CHC) to increase the Haj quota for Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement here, CPI (M) State Secretary, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has appealed to CHC to make efforts for enhancing the Haj quota for the state, so that all left out intending pilgrims are accommodated.
He said as a Muslim-majority State, Jammu and Kashmir deserves additional Haj quota as the present allocation is not in proportion to the population.
Mr Tarigami suggested the State Haj Committee (SHC) take up the case before CHC, Union government and the Saudi authorities, so that maximum number of pilgrims are selected from the State.
Out of more than 16,000 applications, 8,000 pilgrims from different parts of the state were selected for Haj 2008, first time through computer draw of lots which was telecast live on Doordarshan Kasher.
