K'taka: Father hacks wife, kids; commits suicide
Bijapur (Karnataka), Jul 14: In a macabre incident, a well-to-do farmer hacked his wife and two sons before committing suicide over a trivial reason in Hanchinal Village of Sindgi Taluk in the district last night.
Sindgi police said it was suspected that Basavaraj Siddappa Biradar (42), in a fit of rage, hacked his wife Basanna (35), sons Santosh (12) and Mahesh (07) with sickle and committed suicide with the same weapon.
His 16-year-old daughter Savitha, who had a providential escape as she fled the scene, sustained serious wounds in one of her legs and three of her fingers in a hand were chopped off.
Police said Biradar, who was enraged over his daughter talking with a boy, raised the issued at home. His wife allegedly objected to this. In a fit of rage he went on a hacking spree using his farm sickle.
Savitha, who is now in a hospital, told police her father had lost his cool over a family matter.
However, mystery surrounds the killing of the family as Basavaraj was an affluent farmer owning 72 acre of fertile land.
