PMK women's wing protest against liquor shops

Chennai, Jul 12: The women's wing of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) today staged protest demonstrations in front of TASMAC shops selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), demanding their closure.

Holding placards, women in the local areas, gathered in front of the shops, throughout the state and shouted slogans, demanding that the shops be closed and the DMK Government impose total prohibition.

The agitaion was part of the campaign launched by the PMK against the evils of drinking.

The women volunteers urged the government to take steps to close the shops, at least in a phased manner if not in one go as younger generation had drawn into the habit of drinking.

Besides reducing the working hours, the government should close down the shops, located near educational institutions, places of worships and residential areas, they demanded.

It was a matter of concern that even school students and women started visiting TASMAC shops, they lamented.
