CM asks DCs to reduce hardship in view of trucker strike

Hyderabad, Jul 3 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today directed the District Collectors to take necessary steps to mitigate the hardships of the people as the truckers' strike entered the second day today.

The Chief Minister during the two-day conference asked the Collectors to persuade the truckers to facilitate movement of essential commodities, perishable goods and fertilizers, Information Minister A Ramanarayana Reddy told reporters after the conference.

The Chief Minister wanted the officials to hold talks with the Unions at the district level and ensure free movement of petrol, diesel, kerosene and other essential commodities, including redgram and pulses, which the State Government wanted to supply to those below the poverty line at a subsidised rate from this month, he said.

The District Collectors were asked to ensure that the strike did not lead to any major hike in the prices of vegetables and other essential commodities.
