'Congress will contest Pale byelection despite NCP claim'

Panaji, July 2 (UNI) The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) would soon choose its nominee for the by-elections to the Pale assembly constituency.

The need for the by-election has been caused due to the recent demise of incumbent Gurudas Gauns.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, GPCC spokesman Jitendra Deshprabhu said though its coalition partner NCP has claimed to contest, the Congress would contest the seat as the incumbent was its own candidate.

The candidate would be chosen in consultation with the party high command and the decision would be taken at an appropriate time, even as the Election Commission is yet to notify the vacancy and announce the election schedule.
