Mill owners'petition seeking time to clear dues of growers dismissed
New Delhi, Jun 30 (UNI) The Supreme Court today dismissed the petition of Uttar Pradesh sugar mill owners seeking more time for clearing the dues of sugarcane growers in the state.
A vacation bench comprising Justices Altamas Kabir and G S Singhvi refused to grant more time to the sugar mill owners in view of its earlier order making it clear that no more time will be granted to sugar mills to pay the dues of sugarcane growers.
The apex court refused to entertain the plea of the mill owners that they had already cleared major part of farmers' dues.
According to sugarcane growers, their dues which remained to be cleared were over Rs one crore and mill owners were deliberately not making payments of their dues putting them in financial crunch.
